Can't say how many fires this old friend and fire place has had by now but there have been many nights in front of the flames pondering the details of current and future art projects. I always light a fire when I return from a journey. For a long time it was my daily ritual to light the fire, even in summer. Better than any TV program, I chucked the box down the gully and it is now a safe haven for a number of local marsupial. There is a flagon bottle with a globe in the rock wall that acts as a safety light, shedding a soft glow both inside and outside the wall. The shack was built around the fireplace, literally. For a long time it was just a dirt floor with a corrugated iron smokestack but eventually the fire was elevated to what became floor level. If I have built anything right it is this fireplace that has given me an untold amount of warmth and pleasure. I really started this blog to publish some of my art work, that will come but a point of departure has been established now around my fire.
