Sure I burn wood in my fire for warmth and cooking and entertainment, I use dead trees or the crowns of trees that have been harvested by my neighbor's for timber, fence posts and rails. These log trucks hurtle through the main streets of Hobart, Tasmania's capital city, every 15 minutes, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year. Work it out that's a lot of logs going to the chip mills. This is not the only trail out of the southern forests, there are others eating away at the little pristine wilderness that is left on the planet. Millions of tons of old growth logs chipped to make paper. The eucalyptus woods don't even make a good fiber, its Ok for newsprint. That's where its going, Japanese newspapers! In this era of 'Greenwash' politics where the word sustainable industry has become a catch phrase for wanton slaughter it is hard not to be emotive about such selfish greed. Yep, the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ is what drives the world, and no damn about the future, just take it all and stiff if you think otherwise. The Howard government sanctions the destruction of thousands of acres of old growth forest to line the pockets of a few mates. Makes me sick really. The forestry practice is this. Clear out all the best logs, the biggest oldest beauties, bulldoze and burn what is left, spread 10/80 poison around to kill any wildlife that may have survived the destruction and reseed in an attempt to justify the greed and destruction. Murder of the old growth forests. Sustainability has become a filthy word and its used by those who have one thing in mind, MONEY for nothing.
