Tunnel Creek is a small National Park in the Kimberley between Fitzroy Crossing and Derby. It is a creek that runs right through a mountain. You can park the car, grab the torch and take off into the darkness. It is pitch black most of the way through, the image shows a spot where light bursts through a natural vent in the roof of the cave. To traverse the length of the cave one needs to walk through thigh deep water to cross from bank to bank as the creek makes its way through the mountain. Shining the torch across the water can pick up the red dots that are crocodile eyes watching the excited visitors pass by.
A little over a hundred years ago Jundamarra used this place to escape from the murderous invaders from Europe who wanted to bring their sheep and cattle into his country. He was a hero amongst his people for slowing down the progress of the white settlers. Read more here.
