roaring beach

In 1998 I continued my 'Journeyman Artist' project with a 26 'page' book of panoramas from around Tasmania. The book documented journeys throughout the year with an ongoing theme that developed and referenced aspects of where I was coming from and where I was going to. Using graphics software I used the computer to compose my images from multiple photographs, drawings and manipulations. This methodology to create panoramic mind/landscapes is still very much a part of my current practice. Although I did actually produce a book of inkjet prints bound in a handmade hemp paper cover the project took shape in many media. Ostensibly it was a digital project that invited detailed inspections of the microcosms within the works. The images took the form of large format inkjet prints, printed details, screen printed details, ceramic decals and 2 large mixed media panels.

Roaring Beach was one of these large panels. At about 2.4meters in width and it consisted of onglaze decal tiles, screen print on paper and inkjet film with illuminating back lights. The work is featured in the Paul Scott book Ceramics and Print
