wolf creek meteor crater

120 ks south of the Great Northern Hwy down the Tanami Track is an amazing hole in the ground that has been there for thousands of years. From a distance, driving through the flatlands that divide the Kimberley and the Desert, the crater at Wolf Creek doesn’t look like much. Even in the car park the outer rim of the crater looks nothing more than a bit of a hill, but the staggering scene revealed on arrival at the summit of the rocky path is nothing less than inspiring. Thoughts of an ancient catastrophic collision overpower ones perception as the panoramic beauty is absorbed in historic wonder. The awesomeness of this place sends the imagination reeling. This is one case where no image can describe the sensation of this terribly tactile place.
